Some Information on the Making of Colored Scrapbooking Paper

Paper mills manufacture various colors of scrapbooking paper in a long process that takes six to eight weeks.  The mills start by making white paper, then they create progressively darker colors until black paper is produced.  After the black paper is created, the machinery is washed and rinsed, and the process starts all over again.

Dyes are made from plants, while pigment is made from rocks.

The heavier the weight of scrapbooking paper, the greater the quality.  Paper weight is determined by how much 500 basic sheets of the paper weigh, so the heavier the weight, the thicker the paper.
